What this estimate assumes
Simplified estimate for a tax-resident parent claiming every relief shown that IRAS allows them, with their other reliefs (earned income, CPF and others) left out, so the real marginal rate may differ. Who can claim, checked on IRAS on 10 October 2026: Qualifying Child Relief, Parent Relief and the Parenthood Tax Rebate can be claimed by the mother or the father (and shared between them). Working Mother's Child Relief and Grandparent Caregiver Relief are only for working mothers who are married, divorced or widowed, so they are left out for a father. IRAS rules for YA2027 (2026 income) are the same since YA2025. WMCR is S$8,000, S$10,000 and S$12,000 for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd and later child born or adopted from 1 January 2024. It is 15%, 20% and 25% of earned income for older children, and child order counts every child. QCR S$4,000 a child is allowed first, QCR plus WMCR is capped at S$50,000 a child, total WMCR at 100% of the mother's earned income, and all personal reliefs at S$80,000. Grandparent Caregiver Relief is S$3,000 for a child aged 12 or below. Parent Relief is S$9,000 a dependant living with you or S$5,500 apart, for up to 2 dependants aged 55 or over earning S$8,000 or less (the disability amounts are higher and not shown). The Parenthood Tax Rebate (S$5,000, S$10,000, S$20,000) is a one-off per child, given in the YA after the year of birth. In YA2027 that means a child born or adopted in 2026. It is for parents who are married, divorced or widowed, and unused rebate carries forward. Resident tax rates for YA2027, the same since YA2024. IRAS's assessment prevails.

Does my child need to be a Singapore Citizen?
For some reliefs, yes. Working Mother's Child Relief needs a child who is a Singapore Citizen on 31 December of the income year. The Parenthood Tax Rebate needs a child who is a citizen at birth or within 12 months. Qualifying Child Relief has no citizenship condition on IRAS's page.
Which reliefs can a father claim?
Qualifying Child Relief (S$4,000 a child, or shared with the mother), Parent Relief if he supports a parent or grandparent, and his share of the Parenthood Tax Rebate. IRAS says single or male taxpayers are not eligible for Working Mother's Child Relief or Grandparent Caregiver Relief.
Can dad claim QCR instead?
Yes. Either parent can claim Qualifying Child Relief. The household total is similar, but WMCR then has more room under the S$50,000 per-child cap.
Why is my saving smaller than the reliefs?
Reliefs reduce taxable income, so the saving is the relief times your marginal tax rate, and the S$80,000 cap covers all your personal reliefs together.
