What this estimate assumes
An estimate from marks to explain the scoring system; SEAB sets actual PSLE grading and school marks are not PSLE marks. MOE scoring, checked 10 October 2026: standard ALs are AL1 90 and above, AL2 85 to 89, AL3 80 to 84 and AL4 75 to 79. Then AL5 65 to 74, AL6 45 to 64, AL7 20 to 44 and AL8 below 20. Foundation grades A (75 and above), B (30 to 74) and C (below 30) count as AL 6, 7 and 8. The four ALs add up to a PSLE Score from 4 (best) to 32. Posting Groups (MOE, updated 1 October 2026): 4 to 20 Group 3; 21 to 22 Group 2 or 3; 23 to 24 Group 2; 25 Group 1 or 2. 26 to 30 is Group 1 with AL 7 or better in English and Maths. MOE gives no group for 26 to 30 without that, or for scores above 30. MOE says a student not assessed suitable for secondary school may re-attempt the PSLE. They may also apply to Assumption Pathway School or NorthLight School with the principal's recommendation. School cut-offs change with each cohort. It never grades a child, and the marks stay on this device.

How do our secondary schools compare?Read the guideHow do PSLE marks turn into a score and Posting Group? →Common questions
Is a lower PSLE Score better?
Yes. Each subject's Achievement Level runs from AL 1, the best, to AL 8, and the four add up to a PSLE Score from 4 to 32.
Can school marks predict the real PSLE Score?
Not reliably. SEAB sets the actual grading and school tests differ from the PSLE. Use the calculator to understand the system, and talk to your child's teachers about progress.
