What this list assumes
The items follow HealthHub’s list of things to prepare; items tagged “Official: leave out” are ones an official page says not to use. Budgets are your own figures: we publish no gear prices. The Consumer Product Safety Office says children’s products do not need the SAFETY Mark. It does not regulate second-hand goods or children’s car seats; the Traffic Police cover car seats. Check CPSO’s children’s product recalls before you buy or borrow. Checked .
Step 3 What next
What goes in our birth plan?Common questions
Do we need a car seat if we only take taxis?
LTA says taxis are exempt from the child seat rule because they can be street-hailed. Private-hire cars are not exempt: you can ask for a child seat when you book. HealthHub says your newborn “will need to travel in one, right from the first ride home from the hospital”.
Is borrowed or second-hand gear safe?
No official page sets rules for second-hand gear. HealthHub says a borrowed or old cot needs a new firm mattress. Check CPSO’s children’s product recall page before you borrow.
