Quick answer

Place leave between public holidays and weekends. In 2027, Hari Raya Haji falls on Monday 17 May and Vesak Day on Thursday 20 May. Take 18, 19 and 21 May 2027 as leave for 9 days off, from 15 to 23 May 2027. This year, 4 leave days from 28 to 31 December 2026 give 10 days off over Christmas and New Year, inside the school holidays.

Who is this for?

Working parents on a Monday to Friday week who want long family breaks without using up all their leave. It covers 2026 and 2027 public holidays and MOE school terms.

How do you plan leave around holidays?

  1. Count the leave you can spare, including any childcare leave.
  2. Look for public holidays on a Monday, Thursday or Friday. They sit next to a weekend.
  3. Fill the working days between holidays and weekends with leave.
  4. Check whether the break overlaps the school holidays, if your children are in school.
  5. Book early. Colleagues will want the same dates.

What about holidays on a Saturday?

Three 2027 holidays fall on a Saturday: Chinese New Year on 6 February 2027, Labour Day on 1 May 2027 and Christmas Day on 25 December 2027. MOM lets your employer give a day off in lieu or a day’s pay, so the tool does not count those days. Ask your employer which you get.

The tool assumes a Monday to Friday week. Shift workers should check their own rosters. School-only closures, such as Children’s Day for primary schools, are shown for information only.
